Key February 2026 Tax Dates for Individuals

Stay on track with your tax responsibilities as we outline essential February 2026 deadlines. Our guide covers estimated tax payment procedures, guidelines for reporting tips, and requirements for withholding exemptions.

February 2 - Deadline for Estimated Tax Filers

If you missed making your last estimated tax payment by January 15, you may opt to file your 2025 income tax return using Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR by February 2. This ensures you won't face penalties for a late payment when your estimated tax installment was due. Should delays occur, ensure you file and pay by April 15.

February 10 - Employees Reporting Tips

If you've received $20 or more in tips during January, it's crucial to report them to your employer. Use IRS Form 4070 for submission, or prepare your own statement including your signature; name, address, and Social Security number; employer's name and address; the covered period, and the total tips received.

Employers will withhold FICA and income taxes from your wages. Note, if your wages don't cover these withholdings, the shortfall will be noted on box 8 of your W-2 and must be settled during your annual tax filing.

February 17 - Renewal of Withholding Exemption

Observable Dates

Should any tax deadline coincide with a weekend or legal holiday, the due date shifts to the subsequent business day.
